The J-20 entered Chinese service in 2017 and is the first stealth fighter fielded outside the United States. It is long, with a canard delta layout that is unusual for a low observable design, and it is built for range rather than for close combat: the main bay carries long range PL-15 missiles while two small side bays hold short range weapons on rails that swing out and close again. On MCS the J-20 plays a reach game. It arrives high and fast, engages at distance and relies on not being seen until the missile is already in the air, and its fuel load lets it stay on station longer than most fighters. Up close the canards help it point but the sheer length of the aircraft works against it, so a Raptor or Typhoon will win a turning fight. Recommended for pilots who prefer controlling airspace over brawling in it.
