Sky Sabre replaced the British Rapier system from 2021. The launcher truck carries eight CAMM missiles in vertical tubes and uses soft launch: a gas generator pushes the missile clear of the tube, the rocket motor lights only once it is in the air, and the missile then turns onto a target that can be in any direction, including directly behind the vehicle. The launcher itself has no radar. It is fed by a separate Giraffe radar and a command node that can sit kilometres away, so the missiles can be cued by sensors the launcher never sees. On MCS the Sky Sabre truck is area denial. Placed behind cover with no emissions of its own, it makes an entire sector expensive to fly through and the first warning an aircraft gets is the missile. It is defenceless once found. Recommended for teams that can protect a static asset.
