Saab JAS 39E Gripen

The JAS 39E is a substantially new aircraft that kept the Gripen name. It has a General Electric F414 in place of the older Volvo engine, around forty percent more internal fuel, relocated main landing gear that freed space for two extra hardpoints, and an active array radar mounted on a repositioner so it can be swung to keep tracking a target while the aircraft turns away. Sweden and Brazil are the launch operators, with deliveries from 2019. On MCS the E model removes the compromises that defined earlier Gripens. It still handles like a light fighter but now has the fuel, thrust and sensor reach to trade with heavier aircraft on their terms, and the swivelling radar is genuinely useful when you want to shoot and run. It remains a single engine aircraft with one point of failure. Recommended for pilots who liked the C and want no excuses.
