The A-10 was designed around one weapon: the GAU-8/A Avenger, a seven-barrel 30 mm rotary cannon that takes up most of the forward fuselage and forced the nose gear to be offset to one side. Everything else follows from that. The straight wing gives a low stall speed for loitering over a target, the twin turbofans sit high and behind the wing where ground fire is less likely to reach them, and the pilot sits in a titanium armour tub. It entered service in 1977 and the C model added digital targeting in the 2000s. On MCS it is the ground attack reference. Nothing else lets you fly this slowly, see the target this clearly and put this much cannon fire into an armoured vehicle in one pass. In air combat it is helpless against jets, so it needs cover. Recommended for players who want to break tanks rather than chase fighters.
