The LAV-AD is the air defence member of the Marine light armoured vehicle family, fielded from 1997. On the standard eight wheeled hull sits the Blazer turret, which mounts a GAU-12 Equalizer five barrel 25 mm gatling gun on one side and a pod of four Stinger missiles on the other, with the option of swapping the missile pod for Hydra rockets. That gives it two separate ways to bring down a helicopter and a serious weapon against light ground targets at the same time. On MCS the LAV-AD is the aggressive air defence vehicle. It keeps pace with wheeled columns, swims where the tracked systems cannot, and the gatling is genuinely frightening to anything flying low and slow. Against a fast jet at altitude it is limited to the Stingers. Recommended for players escorting mobile forces who want anti air cover that does not slow anyone down.
