The Tor-M1 entered Soviet service in 1991 and was designed to shoot down precision guided weapons as well as the aircraft carrying them, which at the time was an unusual requirement. Everything sits on one tracked vehicle: a surveillance radar on top, a tracking radar in the turret face and eight missiles in vertical tubes below, so it needs no external support and can detect, track and engage entirely on its own. Reaction time from detection to launch is a few seconds. On MCS the Tor-M1 is the self contained air defence node. Park it near an objective and the airspace above becomes hostile, without needing a separate radar vehicle or a command truck to be alive. Its range is short by missile standards and it has no gun for self defence, so ground troops will overrun it if it is left alone. Recommended for defending a point that matters.
