The NH90 is a four nation European programme that entered service in 2007. It was the first production helicopter in the world to use fly by wire flight controls, and its airframe is entirely composite, which cuts weight and removes corrosion problems for the naval version. It is built in two main forms, a tactical transport with a rear ramp and a shipborne variant with folding rotors and blades, and it carries around twenty troops. On MCS the NH90 is the modern medium transport. The fly by wire system makes it noticeably easier to hold a precise hover than older helicopters, which matters when the landing zone is small or the weather is bad, and the ramp lets a squad clear the cabin quickly.
