The Su-24M entered service in 1983 as the improved strike Fencer. It has a variable geometry wing with four sweep settings, a crew of two sitting side by side, and a terrain following radar tied into the autopilot that lets it fly automatically at low altitude in weather and darkness. The M model added a laser rangefinder and designator, in flight refuelling and clearance for guided weapons, turning a dumb bomb carrier into a precision platform. On MCS the Fencer D is the aircraft for hitting a defended target the hard way, coming in below the radar horizon at high speed with the wings swept back, releasing and running. It carries a heavy load and it is fast down low. It is also large, unmanoeuvrable and completely dependent on not being seen. Recommended for players who enjoy low level ingress and route planning.
