The Typhoon is the product of a British, German, Italian and Spanish programme that entered service in 2003. It uses a canard delta layout with deliberately relaxed stability, meaning the airframe would be uncontrollable without its flight computers, and in exchange it points its nose faster than almost anything else of its era. It supercruises without afterburner and carries a 27 mm Mauser cannon alongside its missiles. On MCS this translates into an aggressive close range fighter. In a first turn merge it gets the nose around before the opponent does, which usually decides the fight there and then. The catch is energy: a delta wing bleeds speed hard in sustained turns, so if the first shot misses you can find yourself slow and low with nothing left. Recommended for confident dogfighters who commit early and finish quickly.
