The KF-21 Boramae first flew in July 2022 and is South Korea first indigenous fighter programme, developed with Indonesian participation. It uses stealth influenced shaping, a domestically developed active array radar and two General Electric F414 engines, but the initial production aircraft carry weapons externally rather than in internal bays, which places it deliberately between the fourth and fifth generations. Internal carriage is planned for later blocks. On MCS the Boramae is a clean, modern, no surprises fighter. The radar sees a long way, the twin engine layout gives good thrust and damage tolerance, and the handling is closer to a Super Hornet than to anything exotic. External stores mean it is not hiding from anybody, so it fights on sensors and energy rather than on surprise. Recommended for pilots who want current avionics without learning a stealth aircraft playstyle.
