The Mi-17V-5 is the most widely exported version of the Mil transport helicopter family, with production of this variant running from the mid 1990s. It replaced the clamshell rear doors of earlier Hips with a proper loading ramp, added more powerful engines suited to hot and high conditions, and can carry up to thirty six troops or a slung load underneath. Weapon pylons on the sides take rocket pods and gun containers, so it can suppress a landing zone on the way in. On MCS the Hip is the squad mover. Nothing else on the server brings that many players to one place at once, and the ramp means people can get out fast rather than filing through a side door. It is large, slow and loud, so the approach route matters more than anything else. Recommended for organised groups running assaults with a dedicated pilot.
