The Ka-52 entered Russian service in 2011 and is built the Kamov way: two rotors stacked on the same mast turning in opposite directions, which cancels torque and removes the need for a tail rotor entirely. That makes it agile in ways conventional helicopters are not, since it can turn on the spot at any speed and is not vulnerable to the classic tail rotor failure. The crew sit side by side rather than in tandem, and the Alligator is one of very few helicopters with ejection seats, achieved by blowing the rotor blades off before the seats fire. On MCS it is the most manoeuvrable gunship on the field. It can hold a hover facing any direction while moving in another, which is genuinely useful when engaging while retreating. It is tall, wide and easy to hit. Recommended for aggressive pilots who fight close to the ground.
